Soothing a Sore Ankle

April 28th, 2011 posted by admin

My good friend works in a warehouse and does a lot of lifting. He recently attended one of those company mandated manual handling courses but lamented that they said very little about dealing with a sore ankle like the one he has.

Now sore ankles are very painful and are often accompanied by swelling. Excessive pain and swelling may prevent you from walking or turning your ankle in any direction. Sore ankles need to be treated with care. Here are a few tips of how to soothe a sore ankle.

· You will need to give it rest. You do not have to stop all your physical activities. You can just use crutches or someone for support while walking.

· You need to rest your sore ankle in an elevated position by placing it on cushions or pillows when you lie down.

· You should apply ice cubes to the ankle by wrapping them in a cloth. This will reduce the swelling.

· You must use a compression bag for supporting the ankle while in an unstable position.

· Heat application can also reduce the pain in your ankles.

· You can massage the ankle with your fingertips if there is no swelling.

· You should try to stretch your ankle after the pain has subsided. This would improve the joint’s flexibility and mobility.

· In case, the pain is not so severe, and you have no time to spare, you can at least avoid standing for hours at a time.
